What is Spiritual Care?
Grace Medical Home is Christ-centered and recognizes the power of a strong spiritual life. Your spiritual health contributes to your overall health and well-being; it is as important to how you feel and how well you heal as your physical and mental health. Patients and families are often in need of spiritual or religious resources to help maintain a sense of well-being, hope and strength to deal with life’s challenges. Caring, experienced Spiritual Care providers are available at no cost to support and encourage you and your family through your challenging times as well as to celebrate your victories as you navigate life’s sometimes bumpy pathway.
Why is Spiritual Care important?
Spiritual Care providers are part of your health care team - a vital link in the chain of love and whole-patient care at Grace. Spiritual Care offers a deeper connection with your care team. Spiritual Care providers listen with compassion, meet individuals where they are in life, provide care for existing needs, and offer a safe place to communicate concerns with dignity, respect and love.
According to research by Harvard University, integrating spirituality into holistic care can improve individuals’ goal to reach complete well-being and attain their highest standard of health. An article in the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA), detailed evidence-based findings that Spiritual Care is important and frequently desired by patients with serious illness. The inclusion of Spiritual Care should be a standard procedure in health care. Doing so could improve the quality of life of patients and their families and may also influence medical decision-making to advance patient-centered care.
How can we help?
Spiritual Care providers listen with compassion, meet individuals where they are in life, provide care for existing needs, provide community or educational resources, pray with or for you, and offer a non-judgmental, safe place to communicate life’s challenges with dignity, respect and love. They are sensitive and respectful to all beliefs.
