After a trip to the hospital, Nikoletta was diagnosed with an unexpected chronic illness. She and her family were unsure where to turn when the cost of the necessary medication was too expensive.
Hospital physicians referred Nikoletta to Grace Medical Home to receive care and the medication needed to treat her chronic condition. For approximately one year, physicians at Grace have provided Nikoletta and her family with care and support.
When Nikoletta first became a Grace patient, she shared that her mother frequently questioned why her child had become burdened with a chronic illness. Nikoletta never considered why she received her diagnosis. Instead, she knows that her diagnosis led her to Grace for a reason and allowed her to receive the medication to manage her illness. It also provided a support system for her and her family.
“There are a lot of things [I love about Grace]; it feels like a second family. There is always someone there if I need help or need to ask something. Everyone will go out of their way to help me and my family if we need something. It is always great to know that someone has my back when I need them. I really love the meaning and what Grace represents, caring for [people like] me who aren’t able to afford the same healthcare as people with insurance,” Nikoletta said.
While sharing her testimony at the 2022 Patient Celebration, Nikoletta likened the experience that led her to Grace to the sun and moon rising.
“The way I see it when the sun sets and the moon rises, the sun will shine again. One bad thing will happen, and then one good thing will come out of it,” Nikoletta said.
Maintaining an optimistic attitude applies not only to Nikoletta’s health, but her education as well. Nikoletta graduated from Boone High School in May and is working on her Associate of Arts (AA) degree at Valencia until August. Nikoletta is looking forward to attending the University of Central Florida in the fall.
