We recently welcomed two new providers to Grace’s medical staff – Carisa Jones, APRN and Dr. John Sanderson.
John Sanderson, DO, first came to Grace by serving as a primary care provider one half day per week during his primary care sports medicine fellowship at Orlando Health.
“I came to love working alongside so many wonderful staff members and volunteers at Grace,” said Dr. Sanderson. “As I neared the completion of my fellowship, I was still unsure where God was leading me in my career therefore I took several weeks praying about the position at Grace Medical Home. In time, it became very clear that the Lord was leading me to Grace and I was thankful that Grace welcomed me with open arms.”
In addition to serving at Grace during his Fellowship, Dr. Sanderson also served as venue medical director or sideline physician at numerus signature events and organizations including The Special Olympics, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, LPGA Tour events, UCF athletics, Rollins College athletics, The Orlando Ballet, Orlando City Soccer, Orlando Pride, Washington Nationals Spring Training and the Windermere Prep High School football team.
Dr. Sanderson completed his Family Medicine Residency at AdventHealth Orlando, earned his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia and his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Spanish from North Carolina State University. During his years prior to medical school, he served as a clinical engineer throughout Central America and with Mercy Ships in the Republic of Congo performing maintenance and repairs on medical equipment while living aboard the Africa Mercy, an eight-floor humanitarian surgical ship.
Carisa Jones, APRN, joins Grace Pediatrics after serving as a pediatric hematology oncology Nurse Practitioner at Orlando Health | Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. Prior to that, she worked at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and Duke University Hospital.
Carisa’s expectation of a charitable clinic prior to coming to Grace was “that the care would be minimal and somewhat primitive, but Grace is the complete opposite! I have been blown away by the level of care provided. There is an undeniable level of ‘whole person care’ focusing on providing patients with mental, physical, spiritual and emotional care. Not only giving them medications, but also resources for housing and school as well as counseling and food bags, but more than anything, giving them an example of the way Christ loves his children.”
Carisa has participated in medical mission trips, working at orphanages and aiding doctors in over 40 surgeries in community hospitals in Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo and Ethiopia. She received her Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Florida.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Sanderson and Carisa to our staff provider team!
