Giovanna’s son, Fabrizio, was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder three years ago. He was only two-years-old. Then the pandemic hit; she wasn’t able to do anything about the diagnosis when the world shut down.
Additionally, her father learned he had cancer and moved in with them. Giovanna became his full-time caretaker until he died.
Upon her father’s death, Giovanna decided to come to the United States to get her son the vital care he needed.
Giovanna and Fabrizio arrived in Orlando from Peru eight months ago and Fabrizio became a patient of Dr. Hardy’s at Grace Medical Home.
Dr. Hardy shared with her that she has rights in this country for education and therapies for her son. He educated Giovanna on the evaluation Fabrizo will get from the public school system. Dr. Hardy told them he would like to see what the school offers her son and then fill in what is missing through Grace. Giovanna received this information with joy and said, “For the first time, I have real hope for my son.”
