5 Ways to Remain Resilient

Nirvana

During the month of May, our Director of Social Services Nirvana Muniz shared weekly tips and resources on how our team can take care of our mental health during these trying times. While Mental Health Awareness Month is behind us, we sat down with her to share the top five ways to remain resilient in your everyday life.

  1. Remember that God has control. If you’re looking for a scripture for comfort, consider Psalm 121: “I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from?  2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.  3 He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber;  4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.  5 The Lord watches over you—the Lord is your shade at your right hand;  6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.  7 The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life;  8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”

  2. Put things in perspective. We're in this together. When we concentrate on ourselves, it's easy for anxiety to creep up. We think we’re the only ones experiencing a particular issue, but take COVID-19, for example: everyone is going through something. If you remember that we’re in this together, the load becomes more manageable.

  3. Be aware of your feelings. It’s important to be honest about how you’re feeling. For instance, as businesses re-open, it’s okay to feel nervous or scared. Acknowledge the fear and determine your next steps.

  4. Find a community. Having a community for support and accountability is important. If you’re home, don’t let that stop you. Find creative ways to stay connected with people.

  5. Look for help. In good times and in bad times, there is help. If you need support, it’s okay to reach out to someone.
