Over the past month, Grace has continued to care for our patients. And while that care may look a bit different (i.e., verbal screenings for onsite visitors and telehealth appointments), it’s important that we see to it that no one misses the grace of God.
One of our programs that has seen a slight change is “Food is Medicine for Healthier Kids,” which provides pediatric patients with comprehensive education, coaching, lifestyle classes, and access to healthy food boxes twice a month. In partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank and funded by the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation, this program has had a tremendous impact on Grace patients.
Amid our current circumstances with a stay-at-home order, the majority of patients who receive food boxes are unable to pick them up. However, thanks to Second Harvest, our staff and some amazing volunteers are delivering food boxes that are feeding more than 80 families during this time.
“It has been nothing but an honor to serve our community alongside such a selfless team,” said Yanelis Roman, dietitian/nutritionist at Grace. “We continue to strive to serve those in need and show them the love of Christ through this pandemic and beyond. This is an ongoing program that we pray will grow and expand in Jesus’ name.”
In addition to food boxes, the Grace team dropped off a care package with a resource guide for food resources in the area that are still open, a bottle of hand wash and scripture card with words of encouragement.
